It's very interesting stuff -- but I couldn't help thinking, as I was reading his post and mostly nodding my head in agreement -- that there are a whole lot of people who are nowhere near any of these tools, and so if you base your listening simply on them, you're going to be missing out on a lot that's going on. So... find what your community is using, and listen in there. If its twitter, do that. If it's facebook, do that. If it's coffee at the local truck stop every morning at 6 am, do that.
I agree -- very interesting. There is so much that can be learned from understanding and engaging with all of these social mediums, but I think that Mary is right on. When we begin to engage heavily in social media, we have to consistently remember that it is just one way to reach people.
